How to connect: GameCube

If you have already connected with Episode III previously, you do not need to follow this guide unless you need the connect codes for connecting online, as your previous settings and serials will work, providing you're using the same game region and memory card. That being said, Episode I & II currently has issues with the HLE Broadband Adapter, so it is worth trying tapserver.

There are two methods to connect with Dolphin: HLE and tapserver.

HLE has better and faster latency, however it is prone to freezing while online, especially on some versions of Dolphin. tapserver will never crash, although it adds some latency. tapserver is recommended, but if the latency increase feels too much, switch to HLE but use the Dolphin version linked in the instructions.

Download the latest version of Dolphin. This is a version of Dolphin with a special BBA type which does not ever freeze while online.

Note: If you get a black screen when trying to boot the game for the first time, make sure you are choosing no when asked to set the date/time.

Instructions

  1. In Dolphin, go to Options -> Configuration -> Gamecube
  2. Set slot A to a Memory Card (do not use GCI Folder)
    • If you have characters in a GCI folder already, use Dolphin's Memory Card Manager under Tools to import them into your new memory card.
  3. Set SP1 to Broadband Adapter (tapserver)
  4. Set the server to ragol.org:9501 by clicking the ...
  5. Access Online Game.
  6. (If it asks) Set up the network file in Slot A, then just leave the network screen when you are able.
  7. (If you do not have a SNAK already) Enter a serial number, access key, and password. Put random values for each.

These must be random, as if you end up using the same serial number as another player, you will not be able to connect, so do NOT put 1111-1111-11 or any other pattern.

You should now be online with the option to go to lobby. Congratulations! You may error the very first time you try to connect, as if the network screen comes up when choosing online game, tapserver can break, but if you restart the emulator, it will work.

Using a keyboard

To use a keyboard for typing in-game, follow the below instructions.

  1. In Dolphin, go to Options -> Controller Settings
  2. Change Port 3 to Keyboard Controller.
  3. Click Configure, then Default at the top of the window to bind all the keys.

You should now be able to type in game with your keyboard. Note that the ASCII keyboard controller has a different layout to a classic QWERTY keyboard, so many keys will not be in the same place. 1-0 and A-Z are, however.

Download this version of Dolphin. This is an older version of Dolphin which has a more stable version of the HLE Broadband Adapter.

If playing on Linux, you will need to build from source. On the Steam Deck and Android, the HLE Broadband Adapter is not recommended as there are no versions stable enough, please use tapserver.

  3. Set SP1 to Broadband Adapter (Built In) or (HLE)
  4. Set the server to ragol.org by clicking the ...
  5. Access Online Game.

If you are still unable to connect online and getting an instant error 102, you will need an action replay code. Please see the codes at the bottom of this page.

You'll need to set up general online connectivity yourself, this is beyond the scope of this guide.

1. Go to the network set up in game, and step through until it asks for DNS.
2. In the primary DNS field, put 13.41.36.157, tick manual and go to the end.
3. Access Online Game, enter a serial number, access key, and password. Put random values for each.

You should now be online with the option to go to lobby. Congratulations!

If you have Nintendont already installed, you will need to reinstall it with the link below, as the official Nintendont has issues with Episode 3.

1. Download this version of Nintendont and install it.
2. Go to the network set up in game, and step through until it asks for DNS.
3. In the primary DNS field, put 13.41.36.157, tick manual and go to the end.
4. Access Online Game, enter a serial number, access key, and password. Put random values for each.

If you're getting an instant Error 102 when trying to connect online despite following the instructions above, this means that your internet connection does not allow DNS redirection, and it will be necessary to change the address that PSO connects to. This is easily done with AR Codes. Enter them as normal for your chosen platform.

If on GameCube/Wii, make sure to set DNS server to automatic in the network settings.

If using Dolphin, set the DNS server as 8.8.8.8 in the Broadband Adapter (HLE) settings.
